VSNZ WINTER ARC 2026

MAIN STAGE

14m x 16m

Elevation 2,343 metres

A series of towering, angular shards rise up out of the alpine landscape - their triangular, peak-like forms echo the jagged silhouettes of the surrounding mountains. 2,343 metres up in the Swiss Alps, VSNZ’s monumental Winter Arc Stage emerges - a bold, architectural vision takes place within this breathtaking, natural environment.

The stage’s silhouette is simultaneously framed and contrasted by the snow-covered peaks that stand behind it, the sculpture emerges as a contemporary monument carved from light, reflection and geometry. The large-scale mirrored shards ascend, forming a dynamic rhythm symbolic of the mountainous environment it is placed within. Its many mirrored surfaces and edges capture the shifting alpine light, reflecting the sky, snow, and the crowd below. Absorbing the deep blues of the skies, whilst also reproducing the shapes of the clouds that drift slowly through the set, a harmonising, visual dialogue sees the sculpture take on its environment and the elements around it.

The spatial arrangement of the shards produce repeated, intentional seams of negative space that run through the set. Light pierces the stage as it reaches out through the chambers of shadows created by the space between them, geometric patterns begin to glow in a clean, linear formation, their colour and intensity gradually deepening as the sun begins to set and light punctuates the stage, illuminated from deep within.
