'THE CAGE'

A labyrinth of giant rusty steel frames weave in and out of each other, twisting and turning in on themselves as they groan under their own weight. Ablaze - the three monstrous cages begin to topple down, descending into chaos and disorder. Welcome to the brutal, corroded, fiery depths of ‘THE CAGE’.

Repetition of solid, distinct geometric shapes and forms produce a hard-edge, techno, industrial feel. The design employs both negative space and shadows as key visual tools, exaggerating and experimenting with both in a number of ways. Each viewing angle produces a completely different perspective of the stage, the interlocking metal work folds and collapses in on itself, unable to break free.

The bottom of the tilted cubes each house a large LED video wall - animating and activating the cubes as light and custom video content travels through them - strobing, flashing and burning from within in high-intensity moments that create the illusion of the the cubes being engulfed in flames and molten steel, illuminating the endless surfaces of the stage and the set as intensity and heat builds throughout the night.

The stage backdrop elevates the stage and experience further, adding yet another dimension to The Cage. An expansive layher structure makes up the backdrop to the stage, the structure acts as feature in of itself and is architecturally lit from within, becoming an integral part of the overall show design. In keeping with the rest of the set the layher backdrop is clad in a perforated, chain-link mesh across, light travels through the translucent veil and strobes leap from bay to bay as energy roars through the set unbounded and unconstrained. Lucid's LED bars outline the entirety of the set from the rusted steel frames to the central cube, accentuating the many contours and outlines that make up this complex, multi-dimensional and twisted stage design.
