An industrial, brutalist cantilevered stage and set for Chris Lorenzo in Grand Park. Taking inspiration from both the architecture of Chris’s home town in the UK and in Los Angeles - this show is a symbiotic crossover & convergence of these two meaningful and iconic places. During the day, the set aligns visually its surroundings, forging a dialogue between permanent and ephemeral architecture, mirroring the language of both places.

Modular, concrete-effect panels span outwards on both sides, horizontal tiers create two heavy-duty, cantilevered wings - the set appears as if it is floating, hovering just above the ground as mass is pushed outward. Notions of tension and balance are evoked simultaneously. The repetition of modular concrete forms and geometry produce a raw visual that is unapologetically industrial and rigid, reinforcing the brutalist nature and composition of the set.

The rigidity of the set contrasts with the fluidity of the video and lighting FX which moves through the stage. Backlighting the structure, strobing light patterns and custom visuals work their way through the stage, illuminating the voids and the negative space between the panels as light ricochets off its many surfaces. Radiating from the centre outwards, integrated, rectilineal strips of custom visuals and colour glow from deep within - set back to produce depth, shadow and reflections that constantly shift and morph, breathing life into and animating the seemingly immovable structure. Beams are utilised en masse during high energy moments, as geometric light patterns reach out into the crowd, exaggerating the horizontal form of the structure and acting as an extension of the wing span of the stage.
